1. Capital Letter Yes

What about starting this blog post with the words, life is.

Let’s do that.
Life is

Ok, I did it. I now want to continue with something more. Something smart and intriguing. Something that I myself would enjoy reading in a blog.

So, what about this one? Life consists of a lot of decisions. I have been thinking about decisions lately, thinking about what made me come here, to the US, to San Francisco, to State University. I’ve been thinking about decisions combined with the word Yes. It’s one of the most commonly used and important words in a language and still it’s not easily classified into any conventional part of grammar. The word Yes is not really an interjection, not really an adverb; it has its own character. It’s just Yes. Since I came to San Francisco I have had the opportunity to say yes to loads of lovely things. I will show you some of my pictures.

I guess the above is what made me come here, adventures combined with studies.

Back to Yes. Think about how many times you will probably say yes today, and think about how it feels when you say yes. Your Yes might be an embracing of life and an emphasis that you have a choice, an opinion. At the same time, we do have this wonderful yes-no word system that can help us to figure out and communicate what we want and who we are. And hopefully people respect both your yes’s and no’s. Jim Carey makes the most of the word Yes in the movie Yes man (2008), see it if you haven’t!

I am thankful to be able to say yes to an exchange semester at San Francisco State University this spring 2015.

Lastly, I promise to not abuse the word Yes in my next blog post and to not use this silly Capital Letter Y all the time. I started this post with the words Life is… and I’m now closing it with: Life is wonderful in San Francisco.

Yours sincerely,
Kristina Hammar

PS. Back in Sweden I live in Malmö, the city where one of the kings of soccer grew up, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. See this film where he supports the United Nations World Food Programme – and gets suspended for the clash against Monaco in March https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDJjcL9Ya4c DS.
