A good morning walk to the Ocean Beach in hope to see the Blood Moon

Lunar eclipse

It was 3:00 am on the 8th of October, when Maxime and me were woken by the alarm clock. We started to get ready for a walk to the Beach, which is just five minutes round the corner. Although we were a bit in a hurry, we managed it to  take the equipment we needed. After we got out of our apartement block, we realised that the weather wasn’t really good to see the Blood Moon. It was windy and quite foggy. But that shouldn’t be any obstacle for us two observational astronomy wannabes. As we were walking along the street, we could not perceive just one living soul. To get to the Ocean we had to ascend a hill, which is nothing new to San Francisco. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Once we reached the top of the hill, we had to career along an alley. The trees covered the way, so it was really dark and we couldn’t really see what was going on just a few metres in front of us. We decided to use our mobile phones to get a flashlight, which was a very good decision. Finally we arrived at the Beach and tried to see the Blood Moon. The clock turned almost 3:30 am and the occurence started at 3:25 am. We walked southbound along the Beach next to the water in hope to see just a little bit of the color change of the moon. We saw a big stone, where we sat down cozily and waited for about twenty minutes. But we had no single chance to see the spectacle of the Blood Moon. It was toooooooooo foggy :-(.

Slightly disappointed, but nevertheless proud of us that we got up so early, we walked all the way back to my apartement. Before we got to bed, we had a look at an online stream, where you could see the nice color of the Blood Moon ;-)
