A Very San Franciscan Halloween

My first real Halloween in the states was definitely a different experience to what its like back home. Everyone is more involved with their costumes and make up, even celebrities plan it weeks or even couple months ahead of time. They go all out from their face paint to the costumes down to the persona.

Pumpkin carving was definitely on the to do list this Halloween, we never do them back home, its not even a tradition nor is there a stack full of pumpkins laid out at Whole Foods ready to be carved into. We got some Halloween vibe music playing, some pumpkin soufflé lit up candles to make the house smell nice and carved pumpkins together with a bunch of my friends. I took a good hour because of my OCD and perfectionist I wanted to do a good job on my very first pumpkin, while everyone was already done and hanging out.

We went to a Halloween pop up store down in Van Ness called Spirit Halloween Store in the AMC theater. There was a lot of good stuff if you plan on spending from $20-50 on something you’d wear once a year, but I wasn’t so we just had a good look around.

Friday night we went to a club downtown in SoMa, it was decked out with Halloween decorations it was pretty cool. It really got me into the mood and enjoy Halloween more especially if people take the time and effort.

On the actual Halloween night we walked around in the Castro and saw some fun outfits, we saw a T-Rex couple holding hands roaming around the streets, 7 identical Hilary Clintons dressed up by a bunch of guys, a really well done Harlequin from Suicide Squad and a bunch of other costumes.

Would’ve really liked to go to a haunted house but those are well known in Florida, so I’ll save that for the next Halloween.
