If you enjoy cold and spooky places with a lot of history I strongly recommend you to visit Alcatraz. Alcatraz is located in the San Francisco bay about 2.4 km from the shore and was a federal prison from 1933 until 1963. Now the prison is open for visitors and there are several tours every day to Alcatraz. I have been to the night tour and all I can say is that it was a really cool experience and if you get the chance to do it you really should! You reach the island by ferry and while you’re on the island you listen to an audio tour in the cellhouse. But you will also get the chance to visit the hospital on the island and the museum. If you’re thinking about visiting alcatraz I recommend you to purchase your tickets as soon as possible because they can sell out up to several weeks in advance!
