If you haven’t been to Alcatraz yet, you should definitely go there. I went last Friday with one of my Dutch friends and it was absolutely amazing. We took the ferry to the island and did a guided tour. The ‘ranger’ – Alcatraz is actually a national park – told us about the history of the island – basically everything we needed to know to get the big picture.

After that we did the audio tour at the cell block. I had never seen a prison from the inside before and it was pretty impressive. It was really interesting hearing the stories of the prisoners as well and seeing how they lived at that time. We spend a good 2 and a half hours there and then took the last ferry back when the sun was going down. If you decide to go there, wear warm clothes, because the wind was really cold!
