Committees
The International Education Exchange Council consists of general members, officers and a set of committees to keep everybody occupied. Whether you’re into finance, web development or even just partying, there is a committee you can be a part of. This page has a quick overlook and presentation of all committees.
The different committees of the IEEC are:
Cross-Cultural Integration Committee
The cross-cultural committee organizes cultural events, acts as liaison to other student organizations with diverse backgrounds, coordinates the buddy program and much, much more. Cross-cultural hosts events such as the moon festival, which is the Chinese mid-autumn festival, the Mexican Dia de los Muertos, the German Oktoberfest and the classic American Thanksgiving.
Social Events Committee
Social Events is the committee behind the weekly Thursday Night Socialites (TNS) where our international and domestic students meet up at different venues all over the city to have fun and socialize. Social events committee plans from two to four events a week including bonfires, study days at the annex, days in the park and more. Often the social events committee works with the other IEEC committees to create collective events and reminds us to have fun, socialize, and relax.
Academic Events Committee
The Academic Events Committee reminds us all that we are here to study and learn, but that does not mean that learning has to be boring. The Academic Events Committee hosts museum visits, trips to Cal Berkeley and other universities, trips to Alcatraz and The Exploratorium, tours of famous Silicon Valley businesses like Google and Facebook, and works on enhancing International Education Week.
Special Events Committee
The Special Events Committee plans a lot of out of the city events including Napa Valley tours, theme park visits, the Yosemite trip and the famous Tahoe ski trips. Special Events also plans the winter and spring galas, which will be one of the last IEEC events, wrapping the semester and all the good experiences up.
Marketing & Publicity Committee
The Marketing Committee makes sure all our amazing events planned by our different committees actually get promoted. In order to attract SFSU students to our organization and study abroad, the marketing committee creates awareness through multiple marketing mediums. The Marketing Committee is behind the IEEC webpage, newsletter, flyers, banners, event chalking, Facebook events, and IEEC tabling. The Marketing Committee is the backbone of the IEEC that reaches out to new and existing members.
International Film Club
The International Film Club hosts weekly film nights, which always takes place in the Coppola Theater at 7pm. The movies range from the Orphanage to Eagle vs. Shark. Film Club also plans movie nights off campus whenever the opportunity presents itself (for example: movies in the park at Dolores Park).
Finance & Fundraising Committee
Finance Committee controls IEEC’s funds. They make sure IEEC events are feasible, and help out every committee with the financial aspect of every event. Finance applies for ASI funding every semester, and they raise money for the IEEC’s multiple study abroad scholarships. In order to raise funds, Finance also contacts companies, and they coordinate a large, end-of-year raffle. They work closely with the SF State University’s LEAD organization and sets prices and deadlines for event tickets sales.
Sports Committee
Sport Committee, as the name implies, plans events involving sport. The committee has hosted sports days in the park, baseball games, and basketball games. They also create and run the IEEC’s intramural sports teams at SF State. Sports Committee has also planned fantastic events such as skydiving and football games.
Media Committee
The Media Committee is the creative committee. It houses the Design House, which creates all of the design work for IEEC event promotion. This committee also contains writers, photographers, film producers, and journalists who all concern themselves with the creative side of IEEC. The Media Committee also collects and captures all pictures and movie clips from the IEEC semester in order to create a record of all the events and people in each semester.
Music Committee
The Music Committee is a new committee created in the fall semester of 2010. The Music Committee is a collection of people who like to play music, want to learn how to play music, or are willing to teach others to play music. The committee did its first show at the IEEC’s Study Abroad Fair 2010, and has continued to put on events in increasing complexity as time goes on.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee runs the IEEC. This committee is made up of five members: the Domestic President, the International President, two Vice Presidents, and the Secretary. This committee is the communications hub of the IEEC, they resolve conflicts, guide the IEEC’s direction, troubleshoot communication issues, act as figureheads and liaisons, and retain all IEEC committee-related information.
