Everything’s new

Hi! My name is Sofie Nilsson. I am an exchange student from Sweden, and will be studying here at SF State for one semester. My major is Business Finance, and are hoping to one day be able to start my own business. But first I am here to learn things that I wouldn’t be able to learn at home, and also to have a lot of fun!

As of now, I have been in San Francisco for 1 month. I arrived here together with two of my close friends from my home university. Before school started we did a lot of fun stuff; experiencing the city, made new friends and traveled to LA.

My plan is to blog about my experiences here in San Francisco and at school. I want to acknowledge differences and similarities, and experience new things. I will try to post a few pictures as well.

With that said, I first want to talk about my preconceptions about the city:
– First, I had such a high hope about the weather here. Since it’s California – I naturally assumed it was going to be warm and sunny every day. Since the weather in Sweden isn’t the best, I wanted to escape to the warm Californian sun. But little did I know that the weather here was practically the same as home, only less rain.
– Second, I really thought that (since we are in the US) many people would be overweight. But that actually is not the case here in San Francisco. People are surprisingly healthy. This is such good news, because I was afraid that I would gain lots of weight. Luckily I think I will be able to be healthy here.
– Last for today is that people are so friendly here. Back in Sweden people love to keep to them selves and not speak to strangers. But here, everyone is happy to help you when you are trying to find your way, or just to chat in the muni. Love it!

I think my time here will be great, and are keeping my fingers crossed for better weather. As the semester goes I will blog about thoughts and experiences.

Catch you later,
Sofie
