08 Mar HUMP! FESTIVAL

Recently I attended a wonderful  film festival, curated each year by genius (proclaimed by me) Dan Savage which celebrates all things sex positive and creative. Hump! Festival started in 2005 when individuals like Savage decided to do something to revolt against the incessant mindless misogynistic pornography which by no means offers a realistic portrayal of sex, and who is having it. So they created a dirty film festival!- Originally Hump! took place solely in Seattle and Portland: individuals created their own version of porn in artistic and innovative ways and sent it to the team who then chose 18 films to show, picking one winner. Savage clarified that participants were porn stars for the night and that night only– after the showing the films are destroyed and throughout there are strict strict phone rules (hence my lack of photos) thus a safe place is created. San Francisco wanted a piece of the fun and so in the past two years Hump! has come to the city- this year some San Franciscians won with their wonderful film ‘Glory Hole’ which documents the way in which a lovely heartwarming couple met- as you can tell from the title it probably wasn’t a story to tell their parents! The films varied from raunchy sexual scenes to conceptual art and poetry; all were educational in the sense they showed the glorious rainbow spectrum of genders and sexualities-  I love San Francisco and it’s progressive ways lets keep going!
