Journey to the West Part 1 – New Orleans

I have always wanted to see New Orleans. There have been so many movies and other impressions of this city that made me want to experience it for myself.

With a little over a week during spring break, some friends and I decided to finally tick this off our bucket list. And it was worth it! New Orleans is a wonderful, lively city with history all around and quaint little alleys and stores to get lost in. The days we were there coincided with St. Patrick’s Day which made the experience even more memorable. Everyone goes all out and the whole city is alive with music and dancers and yes, drunk people. The remnants of Mardi Gras from the week prior are still tangible and it feels as if though this city loves to party. The spectacle is fun to witness and only the brave (or the stupid) survive the whole day of drinking.

But NOLA, as it is referred to by natives (New Orleans, LouisianA), has so much more to offer. Be it the street performers at Jackson Square, the artists along the streets, the Voodoo museum which only takes up three rooms of a house, or the fantastic food at every corner. Feast your eyes on the beautiful architecture of the French Quarter and be transported back into the olden days. Not only is there a lot to see within the city but if you have a little time on your hands go on one of the countless swamp tours! You will fall in love with the beautiful nature and the unique ecosystem of the Bayou and wish you could be there for much longer. Besides seeing alligators being fed marshmallows and hot dogs, there is a good chance you will also see a wild family of pigs as well as some sneaky raccoons. Just make sure that you wear enough layers as the boats get quite fast and the airstream will definitely get you.

So do make your way to New Orleans and make those memories for yourselves!
