Journey to the West Part 4: Grand Canyon

For anyone wondering why it’s called the Grand Canyon: until you’ve seen its vastness you will not understand the canyons dimensions. And even once you’re there it is hard to wrap your mind around this natural wonder, the thousands of years it took for the water to carve all of the stone away. Coming from the south there is only a single road that takes you to the south rim, so getting lost is not a real concern. This road takes you further and further north and through more and more isolated areas – starting off in the Arizona desert in relative heat we ended up in snow covered forests in freezing temperatures. Even though the weather was not exactly what you would have hoped for, it also added to the mythical atmosphere. We were lucky to have the sky open up long enough to take in the magnificent view and were quick to get into the warmness of our car.

For anyone who is thinking of going to the Grand Canyon: DO IT! It is one of the most wonderful places I have ever been. It truly makes you ponder your own existence and see everything in proportion.
