Journey to the West Part 5: Salvation Mountain

In a deserted area somewhere in southern California is a monument to God – a manmade mountain of clay, straw, and lots and lots of colors. It is the place Leonard Knight chose in the early 80s for his work of a lifetime. Whether one believes in God or not is not really the question when visiting Salvation Mountain but more so the blood, sweat, and tears that have gone into making it. One can’t help but feel at peace and also be astounded by the intricacies of the art work and the whole concept.

Since Knight’s death in 2014, volunteers have continued his legacy and are carrying on the work and upkeep of the mountain.
