Limey in Fog City: LA

Over the Thanksgiving Break I took a trip down to LA with a couple of friends of mine.

We made the decision to try and do a classic American road trip there, something I’d wanted to do for a while, hoping to pass by the Big Sur (which for reasons later stated, we did not manage to do), and the beautiful Californian hills. We set off at about 11, and by 12 we had broken down in Santa Cruz (its supposed to be beautiful but it didn’t look it in the pouring rain), we had to wait 5 hours for the car to get fixed, only to then break down again about 2 hours, this time in the middle of no-where, about 50 miles out of San Luis Obispo, so this time we got towed to SLO, spent the night there, and after a long wait, we finally managed to get back out on the road. Finally at about 21:00 on Saturday, about 34 hours after setting off, we made it to LA.

LA was actually considerably better than I expected, driving around the suburbs gave me the feeling of being in a Tarantino movie, and the city is extremely vibrant. We made the decision to do the most touristy thing possible and walked up to the Hollywood sign (which is actually quite cool), following this we went to Hollywood itself, which I have to be honest, I was not a fan of, it was a little to touristy and a little dirty for my liking. We then went up to the Observatory at night, which gave me potentially the best view of my trip to America, all you can see is just city lights as far as the eye can see, it really is unbelievable. As well as this we had Korean BBQ, which I thoroughly recommend anyone tries if they visit LA.
