Limey in Fog City: The Gun Range

In one of my first weekends as an SFSU student, a couple of friends and I took a trip up to Sacramento to visit one of their friends. We decided to travel their by Amtrak, which although expensive, was largely worth it. The journey was extremely chilled out, and the views of the Bay followed by the North California hills, as well as this you get to pass through numerous small towns. Furthermore, its unbelievable how green the scenery is in North Cal.

After getting some lunch we took the decision to go up and visit the Gun Range, and well I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much support for the Second amendment in one place, leaflets, posters, magazines and petitions everywhere criticizing gun-control arguments and promoting the importance of the freedom to possess firearms.

I actually had a pretty good time once we got into the range itself and did some target practice, it was the first time I’d ever shot a gun, and let me tell you, its not like it is in the movies. One of the guns I fired was a legitimate Red army surplus rifle from World War 2 (It was a Mosin-Nagant), and the kickback was pretty hefty! My aim was also absolutely terrible, and its actually pretty tiring to fire a gun, with my friend pointing out that you’re basically holding a controlled explosion.

Overall I’d completely recommend the experience to fellow international students.
