Miyazaki’s week!

Hey guys!

Do you know the Japanese film director, producer, screenwriter, animator, author, and manga artist Hayao Miyazaki? This week, the IEEC Cross-Cultural & Academic Committee organized a viewing of one of his famous animation, Spirited Away, in school. I couldn’t attend it, but heard it was a success and I am looking forward to know what will be their next movie choice!

I am actually passionate about Miyazaki’s animation, and enjoy watching his movies again and again. I first saw Spirited Away when I was a child, and was deeply scared and traumatized by its absurd and surrealistic atmosphere! Older, I watched it again alone, and it was a revelation. Then, I got into it like crazy and viewed every one of his films. My personal favorite is Castle in the Sky, but I loved Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke. My Neighbor Totoro and Ponyo are also enchanting, for the enjoyment of young and old alike.

Why all this context? Who cares, right?! Yesterday, I visited an exhibit at Sketchpad Gallery, an artistic tribute to Hayao Miyazaki, featuring exclusive prints of several artists. It took place in Soma, in a not very welcoming street, which gave the exposition an even more artsy spirit… I, just like the people passing by, was amazed by the line in front of the small gallery. The exposition was really cute, concentrated in one room. I really liked some of the pieces, at the same time faithful to Miyazaki’s world and to the artists’ visions. Unfortunately, it was a very temporary exhibition, only lasted 3 days… Would recommend a bigger place and more paintings for next time!

‘Talk to you next time folks!
