My Burning Man Journey – Part 1

My journey in California started with a lot of luck. I always find that unplanned opportunities are the most exciting, that’s why I usually have a plan B, but very rarely have a plan A. I’ve come to believe that this attitude simply allows all sorts of things to occur to help me that would never otherwise have occurred.

My infinite curiosity for people with unusual backgrounds and perceptions of the world, has allowed me to develop relationships with truly outstanding people over the past few years. Several weeks before my departure from Montreal, I  was having a great discussion with this gentleman that is significantly involved in the Canadian startup ecosystem. While he was sharing his excitement about going to Burning Man at the end of August and how he wished I could live this once in my life, I realised that I was actually going to be very close to Black Rock City at the end of August and that I had the opportunity to make this dream happen. Of course I said yes! So, in this post I will tell you about the first very great thing that happened from this spontaneous decision was an “outfit hunting expedition around SF”.

When I finally got the approval of all my professor for missing that first week of class, I had no idea what to expect from BM and doubted that anything I brought there would ever come back with me. I decided to go on a Thrift Store hunting trip. That was simply the best way to get around the city and discover neighbourhoods, tasty food places and find the most incredible place to get good quality amazingly cheap clothes! I was shocked by the price of housing in San Francisco, but living in a city “where rich people live” also comes with its benefits when you hit the thrift stores. OF course, like any self-respecting woman , I ended up shopping mostly for actually nice clothes rather than BM clothes, and by the same token got my boyfriend some b-day presents…. but it was totally worth it! For less than  88 $,  I went back home with a bunch of silk, wool, cashmere branded clothes and shoes (Benetton, Ralph lauren, Calvin Klein, etc). Thank you Out of the Closet!!!

Hoping you can get hand on your own amazing find in one of the several amazing thrift store in this city!

Have a great weekend!
