(No) Spectacles

A couple months ago, Snapchat announced that they were launching Spectacles, which are glasses that you can wear and that automatically take snaps. The catch: they were only sold in vending machines that are announced at random times, and can be anywhere in the USA!

This means that each time the countdown on https://www.spectacles.com/map/ goes live, I set an alarm, and wake up to see where the next location is!

A few weeks ago, at 7AM on a Sunday, the website announced that the spectacles were in Big Sur!

I directly went on Twitter and tried to find someone who would drive with me:

Within minutes, someone wrote back

Less than 1h later, we were off to get our glasses!

We drove 2.5 hours, stopping only to put gas in the rental car.

When we got there here is what we saw …

Unfortunately, the Snapchat team had only brought 100 pairs, and they were sold out before we got  a chance to grab some. So we drove back to San Francisco, stopping to admire Big Sur’s incredible views.

Although this trip did not get us new glasses, it got me to see a part of California I hadn’t been to before!
