Post-prandial stress

San Francisco has been offering me a lot of contradictions; privileged homeless people, water wasting in time of severe drought and sometimes awful, but sometimes epiphany-inducing live music.

I’ve made the same mistake three times. James Joyce said once that a genius’ errors were volitional and a portal to discovery. I suspect I’m a genius then because I did learn a lot, but at the cost of my mental wellbeing, faith in mankind etc.

Nightmares on Wax, Tycho, Cashmere Cat. All artists I respect and enjoy their studio and live stuff. But the dreaded ‘dj set’ seems to be spy-code for trite. I’ve seen live sets from these guys in Sydney. They were great; seamlessly reworking their studio stuff and playing mostly with live instruments in a groovy way. But under the cursed ‘dj set’ banner in SF I was treated to a breezy medley of top 40 hits.

Why? This is a question I am actually asking someone. Anyone. But it’s also a rhetorical cry-out to some higher power; yelled while lifting my arms skyward as a slow tear dribbles down from my world-weary duct.
