SF & Movies – Part 1

Hey Folks!

San Francisco has a huge scene in pop-culture and has been featured in many movies we’ve all seen. I thought it’d be fun to tell you guys about some of the places you can go to in the city to see where famous movie scenes were shot.

Let’s start with some classics. In Sister Act, Whoopi Goldberg’s character Dolores goes undercover to pose as a nun in a church. You can visit the actual church called Saint Paul’s Church on Church Street in Noe Valley.

Moving onto a darker atmosphere, in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds we can see Tippi Hedren’s character Melanie walking around Union Square. If you go for a drive about 50 miles up from San Francisco you can visit the Bodega Bay where the bird scenes were shot. It is actually a famous spot for bird watching. The Bodega Bay roads were also used in I Know What You Did Last Summer (classic 90s movie).

Some of the scenes from famous movie Interview with the Vampire featuring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were shot in San Francisco. On Market St, the corner of Golden Gate Ave and Taylor St downtown you can see the building used as the façade for Saint Martin’s Hotel where Brad Pitts’ character Louis recounts his story to journalist Daniel (Christian Slater). Though I am not a fan of recent vampire movies, this one was really good and teenage vibe free.
