So many commercials on the American TV

One thing that really surprised me when I came here in San Francisco and especially and I was watching TV: why have you so many commercials during TV shows???? Every 5 minutes a new break appear! It is really annoying like you can’t watch a program without being stopped by a commercial.

And as a student in marketing, communication and advertising, I am wondering if it’s a good idea or not to really promote a product through TV commercials…

It could be a disadvantage for the brands but also for the TV programs. I feel personally that too many breaks make me want to turn off the TV and go on my computer to watch Netflix. I mean people are overwhelmed by the huge amount of ads, they don’t even pay attention anymore to each ads! Is it a loss of money for brands which advertise through TV?
