The end of ‘Bay Lights’ for now…

The Bay Bridge has been adorned with shimmery artwork since 2013, when a non profit organization ‘Illuminate the Arts’ conceived the LED light display, created by the artist Leo Villareal. The lights have been such a success  illuminating the city in a such a beautiful way, people have become rather attached and now they will be returning after a period of repair and restoration.

My lovely boyfriend found an event on SF funcheap (everyone should definitely check their calender each week for cheap and free escapades) which celebrated the last hour of the bay bridge lights before they retire until 2016. At the Embarcadero at 5.40 am we gathered amongst others to watch the sun rise behind the bridge, accompanied by free coffee and croissants with a string quartet playing alongside- it was beautiful. It was wonderful to welcome in the new day with a mirage of different faces from different places- from burning man party goers to elderly couples enjoying early morning dog walks- surprisingly there was quite a lot of us that had braved the dark hour to view the lights.
