The learned lecturers of SFSU

Studying film and television in my native Australia these past few years has been a treat, but it is not without its limitations. Our sunburnt country, whilst vast and diverse is still at the mercy, in this modern world, of relative isolation. Coupled with our small population our film industry is like half a burrito: its finger lickin good, your happy you got it rather than nothing and you savour the little treats wrapped inside it but you are still wanting more, to unclasp your belt ever the glutton, full to the brim. Being small, our industry is passionate and resourceful, making exceptional works with a smidgeon of the budget compared to its American counterparts. This point is what made coming to the United States so enticing as a film student and I have dined out on a foot long burrito, embodied in my professors. Whether they entertain with anecdotes about dining with Francis Ford Coppola in Moscow, inspire with the no limit world of San Francisco experimentalism and incite rapture in their teachings, validated by the international accolades all film makers dream, I feel truly lucky to have been taught, even for a short while, by some of the best in the industry I hope to work in.
