The One about Camping in Big Basin Redwood State Park

I also got the chance to experience the real American camping. I was pretty impressed how comfortable and high-tech it was. There is not much similar to our Czech camping. You basically pack everything in the car – plates, glasses, high-quality food, tents, sleeping bags, floatable mattress, ribs for barbecue, sausages, games, balls, drinks, everything. There were showers, bathrooms, water for washing the dishes (not the drinking water that was a bit of a big deal on Sunday). You could have even bought the wood for burning in the camping headquarters.

Children had a DVD player to watch fairy-tales before going to sleep, the baby had a hanging swing that hung on the tree (super cool, I would attach a photo if it was possible). It is first time in my life that I saw banana slugs. We do have slugs in the Czech Republic, but they are mostly brown or reddish, not shiny yellow. My mom hates them because they eat her beautiful flowers but in that park there were tons of them living.

I loved the camp site. It was placed in the forest among the trees (and those trees are just huge), there was enough of the intimacy, the neighbors were quite far so we didn’t hear them. Just perfect.

When I go camping in the Czech Republic, we usually have cheap food, just to cook it very quickly because we don’t want to spend so much time cooking on the fire. But here, with my friends (there were two families with children) they had really good food – oatmeal, coffee, tea, scrambled eggs with bacon and parmesan for breakfast, sausages, sandwiches with dijon mustard, grilled ribs and potatoes for the dinner and the fruit pies with the cookie butter for dessert. I would never do so much cooking, but this was just perfect, everyone was sitting around the fire, it was almost like a social event and we were all talking and cooking. Nice atmosphere, I would do it definitely again!
