The times they are a-changin’

I recently visited some very touristy spots around SF for a photo project about technology. I saw enough selfie sticks to get my heart murmuring. I saw a lady take a photograph of herself while her disgruntled husband looked on. I saw three boys stand in the way of a moving car because they were looking at an iphone screen, standing in the middle of the road. Many hours were spent hanging out among the selfie-takers and taking the occasional photo, and not one person asked me to take a photo for them. I’m not making fun but I am amused and find it very fascinating. Tourists seem to be at the forefront of this narcissistic frenzy so that’s why they’re the subjects here. People still talk to one another, but their conversation may be interrupted by a notification from Facebook or Instagram. I feel we’re standing on the edge in a very important time of immersion and technology.  These shots are from Lombard and Golden Gate Park.
