These are a few of my favorite things

Here is a list of some of my favorite things about San Francisco.

  1. Shrimp burritos. I keep daydreaming about these bad boys in classes, on the muni and when friends are telling me about their day or their dreams (sorry, you guys).
  2. The Sights. Bernal Heights, Twin Peaks, Land’s End, Buena Vista Park or any other place that let me enjoy the view of this gorgeous city.
  3. The Music and the Art. There is so many talented and creative people around. Keep your eyes and ears sharp and you will never be bored.
  4. The Street Fairs. Let’s just shut down this whole street for traffic and have a great party for everyone with food, drinks and entertainment shall we? Yes, please, my good sir and lady.
  5. SF is little UN. There is so many people with different backgrounds. You take the bus a few stops in one or another direction and suddenly the language, the cuisine, the style and the people are different. You can eat amazing Mexican, Peruvian, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Ethiopian, Indian, Greek and American food without traveling very far. The world really is your oyster in San Francisco, if you know how to explore and take advantage of it.
  6. Brunch. As if we needed another meal between breakfast and dinner time. Yes, please!
  7. Internationals. The international students and workers are here for a short term. They want to see and experience as much as possible in the time they have got here in San Francisco. They are always up for a hike, a roadtrip, sightseeing, good food, (window) shopping, going to different kind of markets (ceramic-, farmer’s-, Christmas markets, you name it, San Francisco has got it), concerts, comedy, street fairs, some weird arty show, a party or a pub.
  8. Americans. Our local guides, language teachers, cultural interpreters, fellow students, administrators, teachers, neighbors, friends and fellow citizens (we’re not really citizens, I know, stop rubbing it in). Thank you for having us, showing us patience and a good time!
  9. The weather. Yes, the weather! In Norway by now I am usually concerned with freezing off a toe or two, so this mild if not too pleasant weather does not bother me. Even though the mornings are very chilly, you know that you can peel off a layer or to in the afternoon.
  10. The Vibe in general. San Franciscans are not running or hurrying by. Because just like wizards (LOtR anyone?), San Franciscians are never late, nor are they early, they arrive precisely when they mean to.
