Tijuana: Mystery, Thriller (2017) IMDB: 6/10

When we were in San Diego, we decided to go check Tijuana as well. Most people said that it’s a little bit dangerous and we shouldn’t go, but we decided to go! To be honest, as soon as we got to the border, we started to freak out. When we started to walk across the border (yeah you can just cross it by walking, most people do so), all of us were reminding things such as “Don’t trust strangers, don’t accept anything from strangers” etc.

Then we crossed the border, and we were relying on one of our friend’s international phone (because non of us had reception in Mexico) but her phone shut down and we were in Mexico, with no reception, just waiting there with no idea what to do!

Afterwards, we saw a cute girl and asked for hotspot so that we could call uber. The girl said she could give us a ride, her aunt was gonna pick her up and she had a truck. Immediately, our friends said “That would be great, thanks”. Rest of us, all thinking about the movie Taken, were like “Didn’t we just say don’t trust strangers and don’t accept anything from them?…” We waited for so long the aunt never showed up (thankfully), and after a while her phone worked and we called uber directly to the restaurant. Not kidnapped in our first moment: Managed.

On our way back to San Diego (we decided to go back early because we were kind of afraid to go party, since we were 6 girls and 1 guy, and our phones were not working), we called two ubers back to the border, and this is where the fun began! Our uber drivers didn’t know English, and they just tried to drop us off in the middle of nowhere, saying that it’s the border (like really). We spent like an hour to get back to the border, not having an idea about the other car, but we finally managed to go back!

We were really stressed out and everything, but it always remained as a funny memory. Since 4 of us were Turkish citizens trying to go back in to the US (I assume that you heard about Turkish-American visa crisis in the last months), we were really scared that we would have to stay in Tijuana :D Luckily, we all managed to get in (after a few “random” security checks).

It was super cheap and funny, and not as scary as we heard, but we were still nervous. I’m not sure if I’d go again but it was definitely a great experience.
