Tip #3: Visit The Fillmore

One of my clear plans for the semester was to go to tons of concerts. I achieved that goal, where The Zombies, Grateful Dead (Dead & Company, Grateful Dead with John Mayer), and Billy Joel where amongst the bands and artists I had the pleasure of seeing live.

Still, my real tip is for a concert scene. I’ve been to a good part of the concert venues in San Francisco this semester, but the historical The Fillmore stands out. What a place!

I was there twice, and both times the atmosphere was simply amazing. As you enter, you see walls covered in historical photographs from earlier concerts at the venue – be it Grateful Dead, Johnny Cash, Jefferson Airplane, Miles Davis, or more contemporary artists. If you move up the stairs, you come to a separate room with a bar and a restaurant, where every inch of the walls are covered with concert posters (you get one when you leave the different concerts, most of the time at least).

The concert hall in itself is amazing. Large chandeliers hang from the ceiling, complementing the upstairs balconies perfectly. The sound has been immaculate the times I visisted the venue, and the crowd seems to be very appreciative of being there.

So, if you like music; visit The Fillmore.
