Tip #7: Golden Gate Park is not a tourist trap

I mentioned tourist traps and underwhelming sights and locations in the former blog post. Golden Gate Park is the opposite of this.

Even though this park is world famous, and tourists visit the park, this a place you want to go back to – again and again and again. It’s a gigantic park, perfect for bicycles, segways, rollerskates, walkers – almost everything without a motor, I guess.

The museums and galleries are great, but the California Academy of Sciences is especially great. Visit more than once, and be sure to go there on Thursdays when the place is open at night. They have live music, alcohol, and tons of young people just having fun in a museum.

The Japanes Tea Garden is a calm place, but avoid it in the busiest hours. The San Francisco Botanical Garden is simply amazing any time of day or year, and the grassy fields near a lake is amazing for picnics.

I also visisted the Golden Gate Park during the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in October, where loads of lightly inebriated people listened to great music.
