To my fellow book lovers

So if you are a fan of reading I’m sure you either been to or heard of City Lights Bookstore (261 Columbus Ave). If not, well then you’re a fool.

Founded by poet, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, the bookstore has three floors of books, the third floor being wholly dedicated to poetry. That’s right folks, a whole floor to POETRY. Try not to be put off by how touristy it may be, if you go in the evening, the store has the atmosphere of a crumbling old library in Oxfordshire.

What makes City Lights an even better experience is the pub just opposite, Vesuvio (255 Columbus, Jack Kerouac Alley, North Beach ) a “monument to jazz, poetry, art and the good life of the Beat Generation”. So now that’s cold, grab a copy of Allen Ginsberg’s Howl, order a bev and let your conformist mind be shattered into tiny little counter culture fractures.
