Exploratorium: After Dark

Join us at After Dark this Thursday as we explore Fear through special installations and activities focusing on psychological and social explorations of fear. Fear includes both physiological and emotional responses to perceived threats and includes a variety of human experiences— apprehension, anxiety, phobia, and dread. Some researchers sug…gest that fear is an innate evolutionary mechanism; others argue that fear is learned through life experiences. The evening’s activities will provoke your responses, facilitate self-reflection, or increase your awareness of how fear affects your behavior. We will be watching you carefully—with, perhaps, a bit of our own anxiety: Some of the evening’s offerings are experiments designed to help us create new museum exhibits about human social behavior.
Politics, dental work, snakes, and restraints are featured among the fearsome explorations we tackle at this special After Dark. Come face your fears with us—don’t be a scaredy cat!
