31st Annual Sandcastle Contest at the Ocean Beach 10/12/14

When I am thinking about a sandcastle contest, it is almost a couple of years ago since I was involved in building sandcastles. Every kid likes to go to the Beach and gives his own creativity free rein. No matter if it is a big castle, a small creature or a self-named thing. In everyone there is a little bit of child, all the more if you got your own children.

On this sunday noon I was cruising with my skateboard next to the Golden Gate Park down to the Ocean Beach. It was a sunny day and many people were on the street, It took Max and me about twenty minutes to get there from the 19th Ave. The contest was at the end of Balboa Avenue not far away from the Cliff House. As we arrived many different teams were standing in front of their creative buildings made of sand. I thought everyone should haveĀ a large building or group of buildings fortified against attack with thick walls, battlements, towers, and in many cases a moat, but I couldn’t see any castle.

I saw some nice sand creatures, but not even one real sandcastle….why is it called a Sandcastle Contest?

I think I am to German to understand that…joke aside. Here are some impressions of the day!
