A Real Colorado Experience

Hello everyone! It’s me again.

As an exchange student in San Francisco, my main goal is to experience that everything I can. That’s why I went to Denver, Colorado to visit my best friend with a sudden decision. Needless to say, it was a great experience!

When compared to San Francisco, Denver is a small city (even the Downtown is really small!) but it is quiet and peaceful. There are lots of local artists everywhere. They are singing, dancing, performing different types of art. Even in a short walk in Downtown, I had a chance to see so many different artists and enjoyed it.

I wanted to see the old amphitheater as well, but unluckily, it was closed. I heard that it is composed of red rocks (like almost everywhere else in Colorado) and it is mesmerizing. There are so many concerts taking place in the amphitheater almost every night. I would really like to see that but I wasn’t lucky enough. I wish I could see it next time!

The other day, we went to Rocky Mountains National Park with my friend and his housemates, which was 3-hours drive to Denver. The weather was so cold, it was even snowing at the top of the mountain. That’s why I had to wear 3 really thick layers, a beanie and gloves. In September! It was quite a shock at first. Even though I’m used to go hiking a lot back in Turkey, I’ve never been in such a hiking place before. It. Was. Amazing.

It was a huge national park, we started with the Bear Lake and finished the hike at Emerald Lake. In total, we saw 6 lakes and each of them was mesmerizing. The hike took like 6 hours, and it was a hard hike. Even though it was long and tiring, I’m really glad that I had a chance to have a real Colorado experience.

Also, I haven’t been seeing my best friend for more than a year, who studies in Denver. It was really good to spend 5 days with him again and having new memories to tell later. Overall, my Denver, Colorado experience made me think that I’m being successful at my exchange goals.
