Antoni Porowski: Queer Eyes’ beau

If you did not watch Queer Eye on Netflix, then you better should. It is one of the best Netflix original shows. It is about 5 queer guys “The Fab Five” doing a makeover to other people, mostly to straight men. It is more than a makeover though. They especially go to cities which are more conservative and show them that they are normal human beings just everyone else. They become friends with the candidates and genuinely try to help them. It is really heart-warming how they treat them. I did not watch one episode without crying. Queer Eye has won several Emmy Awards since it aired in 2018. The newest episodes are a Japan Special.

Antoni (my favorite) shows them how they can cook something from scratch for themselves and for their loved ones. Karamo is like a life coach and he helps the candidates to be a better version of themselves. Tan is a fashion designer and styles the candidates from head to toe. Jonathan is the grooming extraordinaire and probably one of the most joyful human beings I have seen in my life. Last but not least, Bobby: He is an interior designer and when he renews on of the apartments, it almost impossible to notice that it is still the same one afterwards.

Antoni has recently published a cook book and went on a book tour in the States. When I heard that he would also come to San Francisco, I immediately bought tickets. The show was in the Castro Theatre, which was also a special experience since I have never been there before. Everyone who attended got his cookbook for free. The show started with a drag queen announcing Antoni onto stage. Antoni then invited someone from the audience, who could not cook onto stage and showed her how to cook a recipe from his cookbook. Unfortunately, that someone was not me. It was great to see him live and talk about his life experiences. He is not only a great cook but a genuinely amazing human being.

So, please stream Queer Eye on Netflix and get your tissues ready. Also, if you are looking for some inspiration to cook, I would definitely recommend his cookbook “Antoni in the kitchen”.
