Cafe Recommendations in SF: Study whilst drinking great coffee!

Although SFSU does have a large library with great resources and both quiet and collaborative study areas, sometimes it’s nice to get out of campus to complete your university work – fresh setting, fresh brain and all that!

I’m a big fan of both coffee and cute locations so I thought I’d share some of my favorite cafes to study at. I’ve found that the small neighborhood of ‘West Portal’ is a great spot to get work done – it’s easily accessible on the muni – a midway point on the M line between SFSU and downtown San Francisco and is home to several coffee shops. A personal preference of mine is Ballast – which does a great ice latte – and is set up ideally for both individuals working on laptops and group meetings.  West Portal also has both a Peetz and a Starbucks if you fancy a familiar favorite!

If you live in or near the Sunset District, you must go to Home Café. The aesthetic, decoration and staff inside are lovely, and they have the cutest and most creative lattes to offer, including a Birthday Cake latte and a Cookie Monster one! You’ll be sure to find lots of other students working at this café too!

Other places I’d recommend would be Java on Ocean and Java by the Beach, both offering a comprehensive menu of coffees, smoothies and juices as well as bagels and snacks! The Java cafes have a lively and friendly atmosphere, as well as colorful décor. Java by the Beach also has a really cool outside space, where you can do your homework in the sun whilst listening to the sound of the waves crash on the shore!

If you find yourself in the city center, head to 111 Minna Gallery for a quiet place to study with great views of the downtown city. Another place to check out in the Italian quarter of town is XOX Truffles, which does great coffee and a free truffle with every hot drink purchase!Happy studying and drinking
