Crossing borders to Canada

Hey SFSU’ers,

this weekend has been pretty crazy with all the wildfires going on… I hope everyone of you is safe!

My friends and I left to Vancouver very early on Friday morning. So I would like to share Gator Girl’s travel guide to the land of Drake and the Biebs.

First of all, there are so many trees! We were lucky with going in the beginning of November, as the leaves were still bright tones of orange, red and yellow. It literally is a fall dream come true. Then there’s Gastown, which is completely covered in lights during nights which makes everything just look magical. And the people there were oh so friendly! I’ll admit that the land of Maple syrup had me from the very start.

North Vancouver has a lot of pretty nature to visit. However, I would recommend doing this part by car, as it is very hard to reach with public transport. When you go up to the Cypress mountain you’re guaranteed to have an amazing view of Vancity and its bridge- which frankly looks like a green version of the Golden Gate. Lonsdale Quay market is where you need to go for your midday break, or if you an your friends can’t decide on what to eat, because they have a wide variety. The suspension bridge in Lynn Canyon park is stunning (and free). The bridge kinda rocks side to side as you walk next to a waterfall as you walk 50 meters above the ground. Would not recommend it to people who are terrified of heights ;). A great way to end the day is to go to Deep Cove. It has a little harbor and when the sun is setting, the mountain across turns entirely pink while it reflects on the water. I’m a sucker for sunsets anyway, but this was on another level of beauty! Almost as beautiful as the wide selection of beers they serve in the many brewery’s around. You can order a flight, and they’ll let you try a couple of them in small glasses.

Then of course there is beautiful Stanley Park. Hiring a bike is an easy and relatively fast way to see it all. The sun sets pretty early in Vancouver, so with a bit of luck the sky will turn into breathtakingly pretty colors of orange and pink. If you have time left, Granville island is also nice to explore, as it has many cute stores, restaurants – and as you probably already guessed- breweries. And Vanity sure knows how to party! Top tip for a midnight snack is Megabite pizza, where they sell slices for only $2. We literally went there all three nights. And no this blog is not sponsored**
