Cruising down the 101

This week I finally had the chance to see some more of the state California besides the lovely city San Francisco. On a road trip to southern California, my roommates and me both passed and visited many cities in just three days!

This weekend, we headed down south to the hometown of one of our roommates, Huntington Beach. We left Friday early in the morning and had to be back on Sunday night, so we were bound to spend a long time in our rental car. Still, even though we spend most of our time in the car, there was one thing that made up for it: the view. Highway 101 might take you a longer time to get to the south than highway 5, yet nothing is more beautiful than the surroundings you pass while driving on the 101.

It starts out with the impressive hills that become more and more rocky when you come closer to the coast. After a while, when the 101 turns into highway 1 once in a while, the sea will suddenly presents itself on your right and will follow you for the rest of the drive. We stopped at Pismo Beach to enjoy the view and coastline that we drove by.

From then on, we could almost follow the rocky coastline until we reached our final destination. On the way there we drove by L.A., which we could see from afar. At a certain point we even got to see a glimpse of the Hollywood sign!

So if you want to head to the south, definitely take the 101! It provides you with many different beaches and places along the coast that make the drive really interesting and pleasant.

Lastly a tip: if you want to listen to music during the drive, you might want to bring an extension cord to play music from your Ipod or bring CD’s with music on it. Because we mostly only got noise on the radio and even though the music industry mostly thrives in America, the radio stations often also only seem to know the same five songs, which they play over and over. And when you’re headed for an eight hour drive…
