Día de los Muertos

It is funny how sometimes people who aren’t from your country celebrate your customs more than you do. As a Mexican girl, I know everything about Día de Los Muertos, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I follow every one of the rituals we are supposed to do.

I was very amazed by how everybody likes Mexican culture and knows about it that much. I always knew Mexico had its charm, but I never imagined it as much.

Since I am away from home, I kinda felt a little patriotic and decided to celebrate Día de Los Muertos. When I woke up I prepared a classic Mexican dish with some ingredients my mom had sent me.

During the day, I watched the Disney movie Coco, which I highly recommend for anyone who would like to know a little more about the Mexican culture. It is a really beautiful movie and it is actually very precise in the information about Día de Los Muertos celebration. I also listened to typical Mariachi songs and overall, Mexican related music.

At night, I went to the Dia de Los Muertos procession and celebration. It was very. Nice to meet many Mexican people who gathered around to celebrate and to see people from all around the world interested in my culture.

I ate pan de Muerto. Which is a bread Mexicans only do on this day. I also ate a lot of Mexican street dishes. I really enjoyed this day. Even though I didn’t celebrate like a true Mexican, it made me remember how much I miss my country and my culture, and how rich it is. It really made me appreciate more my customs.
