Driving in the States

I was lucky enough to find a place to stay where I have a roommate who leaves me his car keys when he’s gone for business travelling (which he is a lot). So lucky me, I do have a car from time to time and I really enjoy cruising around town with it.

One thing I noticed, while driving here in the US, is the fact that most streets have three, four or even five and more lanes, which is super uncommon to me being from Switzerland where 90% of the roads are one lane a direction.

To me, this is particularly fantastic, as if I’m a little late for school, I can evade traffic by switch lanes and arrive on time. However, I did notice, this behavior is not really appreciated nor would you find many Americans doing it. So after couple of days being all over the streets I decided to try and see how driving feels like when you actually stick to your lane and take it easy. Interestingly enough, I found this experience quite enjoyable and I had to figure out, I’m not that much slower.

So from now on I’m going to switch lanes and be not faster.
