Finals

Wauw was I surprised when I realized how finals work here in America. I had one in-class test before the weekend and five essays due Monday and Tuesday. And that might sound like a really horrible prioritizing of time on my behalf, but actually that was just how they were scheduled.

Back home I am used to having one or two exams per semester and we always have time of to do them. Our exams are usually in January and then we have the entire Christmas break of to study for them. Here we are studying for exams at the same time as we are attending class. To me that seems like an inefficient system. We end up just spitting out essays without much reflection going into them, because that is all we have time for. I don’t think that is the best way of making us think and actually use the knowledge that we have gained throughout the semester, because we are so busy producing one paper after the other. We end up just knowing how to phrase things in order to make it sound smart without really having time to put much though into it.

When I go home to Denmark I have to do my bachelor project and I will be off from school the entire time to dedicate my time to my project. I feel like American universities can learn from that.
