Going out in San Francisco

The last time I was in America I was only 20, so this time I was really looking forward to being able to go out. Still I realized that the going out culture here is so different from back home in Denmark. First of all, the bars close to early. At 2 AM. Who goes home at that time?

I am used to bars closing at like 5 or 6 in the morning, and then the morning dive bars will be open until 11 AM or something like that. Often times, when I was younger anyway, we would go to morning parties after the bars had closed. In the beginning, I found this really strange that the bars closed to early, but know I kinda like it, because it means I never go home too late and the next day is usually not completely ruined for me.

Another thing that was so strange to me, is that they ID you all the time. I haven’t been asked to show ID for 5-6 years at home. I guess the liquor laws are just more strict here. Also, the thing about it being illegal to drink in public.

One of my favorite things to do in the summer in Denmark is gather some friends, buy some beer and go sit in the park and talk and drink. I mean, people still do that here in Dolores Park, but to this day I still don’t understand why it is illegal. That is one think I am not gonna miss when I go home. Drinking with friends in parks is the coziest thing!
