Hard Time Walking

Before coming to San Francisco, at the begging of the year I experienced I harsh event in my life. I had hip surgery and wasn’t able to walk for about 4 months. It was really hard to start walking again because I had lost complete strength in my right leg. Nevertheless, I knew I needed to get walking as soon as possible to be able to come to San Francisco in the Fall.

The ideal was for me just being able to walk. And so I did, with a lot of hard work, I was able to walk almost perfectly again. A week before leaving my hometown, I went to the doctor for the last check-up. He told me I was able to go to San Francisco but that I should know that I wasn’t strong enough still and that I should keep that in mind for my walking distances and the time I take to rest.

Being completely honest, as you may suppose, when I arrived in San Francisco I wanted to explore everything in a day. I obviously didn’t watch my walking distances and my hours for resting.

In consequence, after a month of walking about 10 km daily compared to walking a block 1 month before, my body was completely tired all the time. I woke up really late every day and I started to get tired pretty easily. By then, I was able to remember what the doctor had said about my walking distances, and therefore, I decided to go a little lighter on my drive to explore the town.

After a month and a half of regulating my walking distance, I am proud to say that I don’t get tired anymore! Even if I walk all day long. I started to run some days of the week and re-started my hiking passion again.

It may seem a little exaggerated for many people that may be reading this. But for me, it is a great achievement considering I was in a wheelchair 7 months ago.

San Francisco has had a positive impact on my health because it has forced me to get out of my comfort zone regarding this topic. I am really happy that I will be able to go back home ready to train again.
