Journey to the West Part 6: Los Angeles

Our last stop on our journey took us to LA. And if there is one word to sum up what LA is mostly about, it is traffic! Not only is there virtually no way around the city without a car but even if you have one, be prepared to spend a loooong time in it. A good rule of thumb is to always allow for about 2 hours from where you are to where you want to go to be on the safe side.

But once you’ve reached your destination, LA has A LOT to offer! If you like the beach and maybe are into people watching, Venice Beach is the place for you. A fun activity is to rent a bike/ skateboard/ roller blades and cruise along the promenade to Santa Monica. And then there is the obligatory tourist attraction: the walk of fame. It is definitely not as clean as one might think and far more crowded. But there are some dedicated cosplayers who will pose for a picture (given there is an exchange of cash beforehand).

If you have the time and money to go to the Universial Studios, it’s really a lot of fun and you can get behind the scene looks at some of your favorite movies. If you’re lucky there’s even a famous actor around.

Even though we didn’t have enough time for the observatory, I have only heard good things about it. So you might want to check that out, too.

All in all, LA is a fun weekend destination with many cool spots off the beaten path. Just expect to get to them a little later than anticipated.
