Making the Most out of the Mashouf

Are you yet to check out the Mashouf Wellness Center on campus yet? As a student at SFSU, all the facilities this place offers are completely free for us to use. Whether you’re into team sports, water-based activities, lifting weights or cardio machines, the center sure has it all. This blog post will offer you some friendly tips on how to make the most of it!

First up; make sure you download the ‘Group Exercise Classes’ timetable on the SFSU app. Here, you can find the times and days of several different classes, including yoga, Bodysculpt, Pilates, circuit training and even aqua Zumba! A personal favorite of mine is Spin class with Kaitlyn on Monday’s and Wednesday’s. Be sure to turn up to these classes five or ten minutes ahead of time to reserve your spot.

Next up is the pool area. There are two different pools, one of which is set up for serious swimmers doing laps, the other is more chilled out (and a little warmer!) – you can ever borrow a rubber ring to float about in! Be sure to also hop in the jacuzzi and sauna, for a little bit of after class relaxation and rest! Upstairs you will find the main gym, complete with treadmills, cross-trainers, rowing and step machines as well as a very large selection of weight and dumbbells. There’s also a sparkling new purple track run.

What’s also great about the center is that you can rent out equipment for free of charge from their friendly staff; this includes swimming towels, locks, rock climbing gear (yes, there’s also a rock-climbing wall!), rackets, balls and gym bands! With the addition of a café selling hot tea and coffee, the center really does offer something for everyone – just swipe your purple card and enjoy!
