Ode to Chipotle

Honestly, this is a bit of a bizarre post to write but, genuinely, one of my favourite discoveries in my year abroad here in San Francisco has been Chipotle. I know a lot of locals have a lot of horror stories about it – everyone seems to have had food poisoning at some point? – but I’m kind of in love.

I come from Scotland, which is hardly known for its incredible Mexican food, to the point where most of it is inedible. So, Chipotle is basically like god tier level Mexican for someone raised on the grossest tacos possible. My order’s a sofritas burrito with white rice, black beans, green salsa, sour cream and cheese, if anyone actually cares.

I only happened across it when I first moved here and in the first few days I stayed in an Airbnb and needed to eat. My tiny mind was blown and from that point I’ve basically attempted to get it whenever I can because, lamentably, Chipotle has not yet branched out to Scotland.

If I had any takeaway from my year abroad it’s probably that the UK needs to invest in more Chipotles. There’s one in London but, man, that’s far away…
