On the road to Lake Tahoe

Ahead of Thanksgiving, we bundled into the car and headed to Lake Tahoe where we’d rented a cute Airbnb cabin in Tahoma. The drive was surprisingly long, and we didn’t stop because a lot of the towns were very similar – we did pass Nancy Pelosi’s holiday home (!), however.

Tahoe was freezing but as a Scot I was used to it (still didn’t stop me wearing two pairs of thermal leggings and three jumpers) and it was beyond lovely to be in the outdoors again. Even though I live in a city back in Scotland, we’ve got a sweeping countryside 10 seconds away, so it was invigorating to be back in nature.

We spent a lot of our time hillwalking and exploring some gorgeous little lakeside walks. On both of our mornings there we woke up at 6am and 5am, respectively (I almost died), and caught the sunrise – then we hiked up to a lake to enjoy the sunshine. We explored South Lake Tahoe, checked out the Goodwill there (I swear, the more rural the Goodwill the better quality stuff you can find) and grabbed some coffee.

We had a lot of fun just chilling in our cabin, which was so homey but big enough for six of us. There was something that definitely reminded me of home in us all playing Exploding Kittens at 6pm when it’s dark out next to a roaring fire.

It was a really, really fun trip, and I’m glad I got to touch base with nature again.
