Rainstorm in L.A.

Last weekend I went to Los Angeles with four other Norwegians and two other students at SF State. The seven of us rented a big car and drove down on Thursday and stayed in an AirBnb till Sunday. As we arrived quite late on Thursday we didn’t have time to do anything other than order pizza and watch a movie that night. The next day, however, we went to Santa Monica Pier and spent a few hours on the beach. Me and some of the guys even went for a swim in the ocean. Or not really a swim, more like trying to not drown in the waves. But it was fun. The temperature in the water was actually not that bad either.

Later the same day we went to Universal Studios for the Halloween Horror Nights. It all started out great. We were all excited – and nervous – to go to the different attractions. As I’m a very easily scared person, I was slightly terrified by the people coming at you with chainsaws, and I definitely questioned why I thought it would be a good idea to go to horror nights. Although it was scary, it was also fun. As long as it lasted. What I initially thought was very impressive special effects, turned out to be real lightening. And before you know it, the sky opens up, rain starts pouring down and one of the main attractions that we were in the middle of, was being shut down. As horror nights are limited to Halloween season only, it’s really popular and so the lines are very long. We had to stand in line for at least one hour per attraction, and in pouring rain with no jackets you can imagine that one hour felt very long.

I don’t think any of us even thought that rain was a possibility. I mean, it never rains in Los Angeles, so a rainstorm was definitely not something we expected. Our Uber-driver even told us it was a phenomenon. Definitely a phenomenon I didn’t have to experience, but oh well, it could have been worse. Although the trip didn’t turn out to be exactly what we hoped for, I still think we all had fun. We got to see the Hollywood-sign, Walk of Fame, Rodeo Drive and stroll around in Beverly Hills. I haven’t given up on L.A. so I definitely need to go back to get the full L.A. experience that I feel that I missed out on this time.
