Road trip to L.A.

Taking advantage of both the early lack of deadlines, a friend with a car and the desire to see more of California after a month of settling into San Francisco, my friends and I decided to take a road trip down to L.A in September…

It took us 10 hours but after a play of Miley Cyrus’ ‘Party in the USA’ every 2 hours (lol !!) and a lot of snacks we made it to our Airbnb. We stayed in an apartment in Monterey Park, which was really far away from Venice Beach (our main place of reference) but we had a car so it didn’t matter.

On the first day we rocked up at the beach, which was gorgeous, but I was still exhausted from the drive before and completely forgot to eat and also bring a towel and sunglasses, so that went as well as you can imagine. I did a reconnaissance trip to Chipotle and a Venice Beach store to get some essentials that would stop me from dying and then we went swimming. After about 20 minutes my friend Mathilde got stung by a stingray, so that was fun, and she was in pain for the remainder of the night. None of us expected the day to end quite like that.

The next day we did more touristy activities, took lots of pics of famous Hollywood murals – as seen in La La Land [2016] – and posed with Laura Dern’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star. We attempted to visit the Griffith Observatory, but the street was so backed up we ended up giving up and having a picnic in one of the parks along the hill.

Then, on the last day, we stopped off for an afternoon in Malibu, went for a swim and then drove back up to San Francisco. On the way we made a trip into Monterey – finally lived our full Forrest Gump fantasy at Bubba Gump – then back home to San Francisco. After 13 hours in the car over three days I had a bath and passed the hell out.
