Ruby Skye

Being an international student definitely has its perks here. It’s easy to meet people and everyone’s very friendly. I’ve personally managed to fall into an easy routine of working, eating too much and getting excessively drunk (most definitely not in that order). But there’s nothing more mind-boggling, brilliant and simultaneously horrifying than the weekly TNS events. I’ve had my fair share of TNS and I always wake up the next day wondering what in the hell happened. Last night it was at the rather pricey club Ruby Sky. The walk from the muni was in itself a work of art. We stopped off for a cheeky Burger King on the way, I tripped over various tourists, and we bumped into the infamous grin of Cherie Blair before finally making it to the club after walking a completely illogical route.
Once in the club, I was fully aware that I was going to see almost every member of the IEEC group that I’ve met so far. I’d probably meet a few more students, blank their names, and realistically never talk to them again. It was, as always, one of those nights. It was great to finally be in a club and have a chance to hang out with the underage students too. I’m not going to lie; I thought having to pay $20 entry was a bit ridiculous (I’m from London, I expected it there, not here). But I guess it was worth it in the end. The club was busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The highlight of my night would have to be being approached by some guy who interrupted my conversation to adamantly claim he was from Manchester, which apparently gave him the right to harass me. He was an eclectic one. For the first time in a long time, I ended up staying until closing and being asked to leave. I had a great time. I appreciated the change of pace, from a bar to a club. Hopefully next week will bring something even more interesting to the plate.
For those of you who didn’t come, you definitely missed out. Get on the next one. There’s nothing better than a room full of drunken internationals trying to understand each other’s accents.
