Speaking Spanish

Being in America has shown me all the pros of being a Latino/Spanish-speaking person. Spanish is a very special language, I believe that it’s one of the nicest languages you can hear and one of the most complicated as well. Nevertheless, I am surprised by the number of people that want to learn Spanish above all other languages.

Knowing Spanish is very important nowadays because it is one of the most spoken languages in the world. Yet, I truly don’t think that people want to learn to speak Spanish because of that.

Spanish is a language of connection and community. It is surprising how easy you can make a friend in a foreign country just by knowing they talk Spanish. Often, when Latinos hear a stranger talk Spanish, they get so excited that they start a conversation with them: this person can be a driver, a person in a subway, someone that is cleaning an area, or someone that is learning to speak it. Spanish creates very strong and intimate relationships.

I speak 4 other languages besides Spanish and this has never happened that much with either of them.

Spanish is a very beautiful language, it has made me make a lot of friends during my semester abroad.
