Stern Grove Festival

Sunday’s are usually days where we spend at home relaxing, cleaning or running errands, well for me that’s the case. Since I am studying abroad there is more of an emphasis in finding parties or events happening downtown or even in the local area. On Sunday the 21st, I visited Stern Grove’s 79th Festival which usually occur every Sunday’s with different artists or bands playing each weekend but today was the last concert for this year.

Once you enter the grounds, you are immediately forced to walk down a steep hill to the main center where there is information about the event and a small supply of food and drink stalls such as hot dogs, garlic french fries or receive a free chocolate milk shake. When you pass the main entrance, the natural amphitheater that is within the eucalyptus trees makes it a more interesting experience with the main stage on the left.

The festival is completely free which is awesome! I have noticed since being here that there are A LOT of free events that happen you just have to know where to find it or it can be spread through friends of friends. It was my first time going to this festival so I didn’t bring any food or a blanket to sit on especially because the grass will be damp from the cloudy weather. The vibe is very chill, everyone is here for the music, you can make new friends there by having small chats with people around you since you will be sitting in the same vicinity as them.

The cool thing about this festival other than the fact that it is free is that it is entirely funded by the community from donations. It is a nice and calming atmosphere to be in, makes you feel like you are apart of nature, you just need to go and experience it yourself. Enjoy what San Francisco has to offer and look around for things to do, there’s always something happening! (Would love to show you some pictures but we are having a few issues).
