Sunny San Diego

Hey SFSUers!

Gator Girl here, back with another adventure. That’s right, during Labor weekend we travelled all the way to the south for a weekend getaway. So if you’re interested, here’s Gator Girl’s Unofficial but Very Awesome Travel Guide to San Diego!!

  • Go with Flixbus. This is a very cheap alternative to flights, we managed to spend less than 70 dollars on a two-way ticket! We left on a Thursday night, as all of us didn’t have classes on Friday, and I slept the entire journey. We returned on Monday (Labor day), so that was a pretty long day. However, the Flixbusses have wifi and you can charge your phone, so an epic Vampire Diaries marathon helped me through the day. Would definitely recommend it as cheap travel option!!
  • Book an Airbnb. Motels weren’t even that much cheaper in San Diego, so we booked an Airbnb instead. The room was fine, but we had a rooftop terrace which was an a-ma-zing. Say hello to watching the pretty pink skies during sunset hours, while sipping on rosé and thinking about the fact that life really doesn’t get any better.
  • Wake up with some live music @ Amplified. This was located across our apartment. The breakfast and iced coffees are worth crawling out of your bed for. Oh, and there is a band singing some mellow tunes. Did I already mention life doesn’t get any better?
  • Explore downtown and Gaslamp district. Walking around the city and just admiring the cool vintage architecture is definitely a must. Shortly after, we ended up in a shopping mall. Oh well, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do, right?
  • Have dinner in Happy Italy. If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for Italian food. And seriously, who isn’t?? This is your place to be, crowded with cute Italian restaurants including charming Italian waiters.
  • Stroll around Balboa park. This park is huge! That and the fact we went to the dog area and watched them for over an hour, resulted in to having to do the park in two days. But that was fine, cause this way we got to explore even more! We just walked around and went to the botanical garden, but the options here are endless. The airport is really close to here, so rumor has it when you jump real high you might actually touch one!!
  • Go to old town San Diego. Howdy! If you wanna get some cowboy vibes, go to old town and good vibes are guaranteed. It consists of a lot of cute little shops, restaurants and, most importantly, a lot of good photo spots your Insta feed will thank you for.
  • Crash a frat party! Having an unforgettable night for dummies:
    – Google the address of the biggest frat houses
    – Tell the people at the door you know Brandon (research suggest that there’s an average of 4.2 Brandons walking around at every frat party, so guaranteed success (Trouwborst et al., 2018))
    – Enjoy the free punch
    – Accept the fact that everybody will ask you where you’re from. Whether you just say ‘Hey, how are you’ or nothing at all, they will know you’re not from here. Trust me, they sense it.
    – Don’t forget to have fun!!!
  • Have a day at the beach. You might wanna do this when you had a little bit too much fun the night before (like we did). Mission Beach is perfect to enjoy the last rays of sunshine before returning to foggy San Francisco. There’s also a boardwalk with rollercoasters, but we weren’t reallyyy in the mood to try them.

Those are THE secrets to have an amazing time in San Diego! We for sure did :)

Until next time!

Xoxo,

Gator Girl
